Leaving Square Top Mountain Behind
South Park Trail to Square Top Mountain

This weekend I returned to Guannella Pass to hike the South Park Trail. I had only planned to hike as far as the Square Top Lakes, but ended up climbing my first mountain in Colorado.

On a whim, I started scrambling up the mountain to get a better picture of the lake, and later decided to just keep going. For those of you climbing Square Top Mountain, I would not recommend this route.

As you can see there is no maintained trail up the mountain. If you squint hard enough, you can see 3 people near the top.

This photo shows a more appropriate route up the mountain, rather than scrambling from the Upper Square Top lake.
